Department of Computer Science

The Department of Computer Science at Hawassa University, Bensa Daye Campus, established in 2021, is committed to producing skilled, ethical, and innovative computing professionals who can contribute to the digital transformation of Ethiopia. The department focuses on high-quality teaching, practical training, research, and community engagement to meet the growing demand for ICT professionals in the country.

Vision

To become a leading center of excellence in computing education, research, and innovation—recognized nationally and across East Africa. By 2030, the department aims to contribute significantly to Hawassa University’s vision of becoming one of the top ten research universities in East Africa through impactful research, technology-driven solutions, and the production of highly competent ICT professionals.

Mission

To provide high-quality education in computer science, conduct relevant and impactful research, and offer community-oriented services that promote technological advancement. The department aims to produce graduates equipped with problem-solving skills, technological competence, and professional ethics.

Involvement in Teaching and Learning, Research and Technology Transfer, and Community Service:

Teaching and Learning

Provides theory and practical courses, hands-on laboratory sessions, and project-based learning.

Research and Technology Transfer

Staff has produced three published research works and continues to engage in collaborative research to address local and national challenges.

The department offers ICT training, technical support, and digital literacy programs for nearby schools and local offices.
