Background
Bensa Daye campus is one of seven campuses of Hawassa University, located in the town of Daye, Eastern Sidama Zone, Ethiopia. It is located at about 132 km east of Hawassa City. Officially, the campus was founded in 2019 G.C (making it the youngest campus of the University). The Campus offers BSc/BA degrees in eight programs: Agriculture related (Agricultural Economics, Agribussiness and value chain management, and Plant Science), Technology/Engineering (Computer Science), Social Sciences/humanities (English Language and Literature), and Natural and Computational sciences (Biology, Mathematics and Physics). The campus graduated its first batch of 175 regular students on 18th September, 2021 G.C. We focus on quality education, research, and community engagement and working to improve student services and enhance our presence in the local community.
Establishment history
The foundation stone was laid in January 2014 G.C, and the campus started its first academic year in 2019 G.C with 340 regular students.
Academics
It offers both regular (1,172 students) and continuing education programs (1,925 students), with a total enrollment of 3,097 students in the 2011-2017 E.C fiscal years.

occupies more than 100 hectares of land in Daye town. The region around Bensa
Daye is known for specialty coffee production, potential geological resources,
and campus leadership has indicated intent to use the campus for research and
technology transfer to support local communities especially in agriculture and
rural development.

Its mission is to provide quality education, conduct problem-solving research, and offer technology transfer and community services. There is also a vision to eventually launch graduate level programs (Masters and beyond) in fields like Agriculture, Natural and Computational Sciences (especially in geology and mining), and Social Sciences.
